Chestnut – Schrader

Chestnut (Castanea hybrid) – Schrader
Quantity: 1
Location: Creek Meadow Hugelkultur solo bed
Purchased from Raintree Nursery
Planted: Spring 2011
USDA Zones: 5-9
Description from nursery: A large spreading tree that grows to 40’ tall, this European hybrid is not blight resistant but is an outstanding producer of large, sweet chestnuts. When they ripen, the nuts fall from the tree in their husks, which serves to protect them from squirrels. Hulls have to be stomped to release the chestnuts. This tree was propagated by Harry Lagestadt in Portland Oregon.

Received plant in April from Raintree Nursery and planted directly in the arboretum.
